BOB Premier Credit Card: Is the ₹1,000 Fee Worth It?
At ₹1,000 joining and annual fee, the BOBCARD Premier sits in a sweet spot that many Indian cardholders overlook. It is not the entry-level BOBCARD Easy, and it is not the premium Eterna. It is designed for the frequent domestic traveller or regular diner who wants accelerated rewards and a quarterly lounge visit without paying a premium card fee. This review breaks down every benefit, charge, and eligibility criterion so you can decide whether the Premier is worth adding to your wallet.
All facts in this blog are sourced from the official BOBCARD product page at bobcard.co.in and the Most Important Terms & Conditions (MITC) Ver 19, effective 1 April 2026. Cards are issued by BOBCARD Limited, a 100% subsidiary of Bank of Baroda.

Fees and Fee Waiver- How to Make It Truly Free
The standard joining and annual fee for the BOBCARD Premier is ₹1,000 + GST each year. However, BOBCARD makes it straightforward to avoid both fees entirely through milestone spends.
Joining Fee Waiver
Spend ₹10,000 in the first 60 days of card issuance and your joining fee is completely reversed. For most cardholders — whether salaried professionals managing groceries, fuel, and utilities — hitting ₹10,000 in two months is easily achievable.
Annual Fee Waiver
From the second year onwards, spend ₹1,20,000 in your card anniversary year (₹10,000 per month on average) and the ₹1,000 annual fee is waived. That works out to roughly ₹10,000 per month in card spends — a target that regular users typically cross without trying.
Smart EMI for Large Purchases
Any purchase above ₹2,500 can be converted into a Smart EMI of 6 to 48 months. This is useful when making large travel bookings or appliance purchases — you get the rewards on the original transaction while spreading repayments.
Rewards Programme- How You Earn and What You Earn
Base Earn Rate
Every ₹100 you spend on eligible categories earns 2 Reward Points. At the redemption value of 1 RP = ₹0.25, that translates to a 0.5% value-back on everyday spends. This is the base rate for categories not covered by the 5X accelerator.
5X Accelerated Rewards-Travel, Dining, International
The Premier's headline benefit is 10 Reward Points per ₹100 on three high-priority categories:
- Travel spends (online travel aggregators, flight and hotel bookings)
- Dining at restaurants
- International transactions
10 RP per ₹100 redeemed at ₹0.25 per RP delivers an effective 2.5% return on these categories. Over a year, for someone who spends ₹5,000 per month on dining and travel, that adds up to ₹1,500 in annual value — well over the ₹1,000 fee even before considering the waiver.
Note: The 5X accelerated earn is capped at 2,000 Reward Points per statement cycle across the combined travel, dining, and international categories. Once you cross the cap in any cycle, additional spends in those categories earn at the base rate of 2 RP per ₹100. Plan your high-spend months accordingly.
Welcome Benefit
New cardholders who spend ₹5,000 or more within 60 days of card issuance receive 500 bonus Reward Points. At ₹0.25 per point, that is ₹125 in value — a small but helpful boost at the start.
Redeeming Your Reward Points
Reward Points can be redeemed for cashback at the rate of 1 RP = ₹0.25. They can also be redeemed against flight bookings, hotel bookings, shopping, and gift vouchers through the BOBCARD rewards portal. The minimum redemption threshold is 1,000 Reward Points (effective 1 July 2025).
Reward Points on the Premier card carry a validity of 2 years. Unlike the premium Eterna or Tiara cards — where points are evergreen and never lapse — Premier cardholders should track their point expiry to avoid losing accumulated value.
Categories Excluded from Rewards
No Reward Points are earned on the following MCC categories:
- Fuel transactions (1% surcharge waiver applies instead)
- Agriculture, Contractor, Transportation
- Rent (MCC 6513)
- Wallet loading (MCC 6539–6542)
- Government and Education transactions
- Hospital and Healthcare
- Supermarket and Fast Food (MCC 5814)
- Insurance and Charity
Additionally, a 1% fee applies to wallet loading transactions, and such transactions attract cash advance interest from Day 1 with zero grace period — this is per BOBCARD MITC, not optional.
Airport Lounge Access- Domestic Quarterly Visits

The BOBCARD Premier offers one complimentary domestic airport lounge access per calendar quarter, giving you up to four lounge visits per year. Eligible lounges are located across major Indian airports including Bengaluru (080 Lounge), Delhi (Encalm Lounge), Mumbai (Adani Lounge), Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and others.
Spend Requirement (Effective 1 January 2025)
To access a complimentary lounge in any given quarter, you must have spent a minimum of ₹20,000 on your BOBCARD Premier in the preceding calendar quarter. For example, to access a lounge in April–June (Q2), you must have spent at least ₹20,000 between January and March (Q1).
New cardholders are exempt from this spend condition in the quarter they receive their card. The minimum spend criteria kicks in from the following quarter onwards.
For domestic travel — flight bookings, hotel bookings, cab and train bookings through online travel aggregators — the Premier performs well, earning 10 RP per ₹100 up to the monthly cap.
Fuel Surcharge Waiver
The BOBCARD Premier provides a 1% fuel surcharge waiver on transactions between ₹400 and ₹5,000 at all petrol pumps across India. The waiver is capped at ₹250 per statement cycle.
Important: No Reward Points are earned on fuel transactions. The surcharge waiver is the only benefit on fuel spends. For higher fuel transactions of ₹10,000 or more, a 1% fee applies separately — refer to the BOBCARD MITC at bobcard.co.in for full details.
In-Built Insurance- Personal Accident Cover
The Premier includes complimentary personal accident death cover at no extra cost:
- Air accidental death cover: ₹50 Lakhs
- Non-air accidental death cover: ₹10 Lakhs
- Zero liability on lost or stolen card, provided the loss is reported immediately
This is a meaningful protection benefit, particularly for frequent flyers and travellers. The insurance cover is in-built and does not require a separate policy or activation.
Add-On Cards and Other Benefits
Complimentary Add-On Cards
You can get up to 3 lifetime free add-on cards for your spouse, parents, siblings, or children above the age of 18. These add-on cardholders earn Reward Points on their spends, which pool into your primary account.
Contactless Payments
The BOBCARD Premier is enabled with contactless chip technology for secure, fast tap-to-pay transactions at supported POS terminals.
RuPay Variant and UPI Compatibility
The BOBCARD Premier is available in both Visa and RuPay network variants. If you choose the RuPay Premier, you can link your credit card to UPI applications including Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and BHIM. This allows you to make UPI payments via credit card — earning Reward Points while keeping your bank balance intact.
Note: Only the RuPay variant of the Premier supports UPI. The Visa variant does not support UPI payments.
Finance Charges and Other Fees You Should Know
Understanding the cost side is as important as the benefits. Here are the key charges applicable to the BOBCARD Premier:
| Charge Type | Amount |
|---|---|
| Interest-Free Period | 20 to 50 days (on full payment) |
| Cash Withdrawal Fee | 2.5% of amount or ₹500, whichever is higher |
| Cash Advance Interest | From Day 1 — no grace period |
| Over-Limit Charge | 2.5% of excess amount or ₹600, whichever is higher |
| Late Payment (₹1K–₹10K) | ₹750 |
| Late Payment (₹10K–₹25K) | ₹950 |
| Late Payment (₹25K–₹50K) | ₹1,100 |
| Late Payment (>₹50K) | ₹1,300 |
| Foreign Currency Markup | 3.5% on international transactions |
| Forex Wallet Loading Fee | 1% (MCC 6539–6542) + Day 1 cash advance interest |
| Rent Transaction Fee | 1% (MCC 6513) |
| GST on all fees | 18% |
Interest-Free Period- What It Means
You get up to 50 days interest-free credit on purchases, provided you pay your full outstanding balance by the statement due date. The exact number of interest-free days (ranging from 20 to 50) depends on when in your billing cycle the transaction was made.
Critical: If you do not pay the full outstanding balance by the due date, interest is applied retroactively from the original transaction date on all purchases in that statement — not just the unpaid portion. This makes carrying a balance significantly expensive at 3.75% per month.
Eligibility Criteria for BOBCARD Premier
To apply for the BOBCARD Premier, you should meet the following general criteria. Final approval is at BOBCARD's discretion based on your credit profile.
- Minimum annual income: Approximately ₹7.2 Lakh (net annual income) — making it more accessible than the Eterna's ₹12 Lakh requirement
- CIBIL credit score: 750 or above is typically the benchmark for BOBCARD card applications
- Age: You must be at least 21 years old
- Residency: Indian resident
Required documents typically include PAN card, Aadhaar card (both sides), recent passport-size photograph, and income proof (last 2 months' bank statement showing salary credits or salary slips with bank statement).
