Key Takeaways
BOBCARD is now the sole Etihad co-brand card issuer in India after the SBI Card partnership closed on 31 March 2026. Both BOBCARD Etihad variants earn Etihad Guest Miles on every eligible transaction - but the two cards are built for very different travellers.
- BOBCARD Etihad Guest Premium costs ₹5,000 + GST annually and offers 0% forex markup, 6 miles per ₹100 on Etihad flights, 2 miles per ₹100 on all other eligible spends, and instant Etihad Guest Gold tier on your first etihad.com purchase.
- BOBCARD Etihad Guest Standard costs ₹2,500 + GST annually, carries a 1% forex markup, earns 3 miles per ₹100 on Etihad flights and 1 mile per ₹100 on other spends, and grants Silver tier on first card transaction.
- The Premium card's 0% forex breaks even against the Standard at ₹2,50,000 in annual international spend - beyond that point, the Premium costs less in effective fees.
- The Premium card's milestone thresholds are twice as high - meaning moderate spenders (₹50k/month) can earn more total miles on the Standard card than the Premium.
- Lounge access comes with no spend condition on either card - unlike BOBCARD Eterna and Tiara, which require ₹40,000/quarter.
India now has exactly two Etihad co-branded credit cards - and both of them are from BOBCARD. Since the SBI Card Etihad partnership formally closed on 31 March 2026, BOBCARD Etihad Guest and BOBCARD Etihad Guest Premium are the only credit cards in the country that let you earn Etihad Guest Miles on everyday spending. If you are deciding between the two, this guide covers every meaningful difference so you can make the right call.

The Forex Case: Where the Premium Pays for Itself
The single most financially significant difference between the two cards is the forex markup: 0% on Premium, 1% on Standard. For Indian travellers who spend internationally, this difference directly translates to rupees saved.
At 0% forex (Premium card), your transactions convert at the network rate with no additional charge. At 1% forex (Standard card), every ₹1,00,000 in international spending costs you ₹1,000 extra. Over a year of regular international travel, this adds up fast.
| Annual International Spend | Cost on Standard (1% forex) | Cost on Premium (0% forex) | Annual Saving with Premium | Premium Fee After Saving |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹1,00,000 | ₹1,000 | ₹0 | ₹1,000 | ₹4,000 net fee |
| ₹2,00,000 | ₹2,000 | ₹0 | ₹2,000 | ₹3,000 net fee |
| ₹2,50,000 | ₹2,500 | ₹0 | ₹2,500 | ₹2,500 net fee - card breaks even |
| ₹5,00,000 | ₹5,000 | ₹0 | ₹5,000 | Fee waived anyway at ₹5L spend |
Any BOBCARD Etihad Premium cardholder spending ₹2,50,000+ internationally per year recovers the entire ₹5,000 annual fee purely through forex savings. Miles and lounge access come free on top of a card that has already justified its cost.
Miles Accumulation: The Real Earning Gap
The earn rate difference - 2 miles per ₹100 (Premium) versus 1 mile per ₹100 (Standard) on all non-Etihad spends - doubles the earning pace for every eligible transaction. On Etihad flight purchases specifically, the gap is even wider: 6 miles per ₹100 (Premium) versus 3 miles per ₹100 (Standard).
Here is what a regular urban professional spending ₹50,000 per month on the card (₹6L/year) accumulates annually on each card, excluding Etihad flight purchases:
Important: The Premium card's higher milestone thresholds mean a moderate spender (₹50k/month) actually earns fewer total miles on the Premium than on the Standard, because they hit the Standard's milestones but miss the Premium's. The Premium card earns more only when the cardholder spends enough to clear its higher thresholds. The crossover happens at approximately ₹80,000–₹1,00,000 per month in card spend.
Tier Status: The Gold Tier Difference
Both cards grant Etihad Guest Silver tier on your first card transaction. Silver provides a 25% bonus on Etihad flight miles, dedicated check-in at Abu Dhabi, priority boarding, and two customisable benefits - choose from lounge access, seat selection, baggage discount, or vouchers.
The decisive status advantage of the Premium card: one purchase on etihad.com (even a ₹100 seat selection fee) upgrades you to Etihad Guest Gold tier. Gold adds a 50% flight miles bonus, four customisable benefits (including chauffeur service, home check-in, or complimentary award flight refunds), and higher upgrade waitlist priority. For Indian travellers who fly Etihad 3–4 times per year, Gold tier materially improves the flying experience.
Standard cardholders can only earn Gold by accumulating the required Tier Miles through flying - which normally requires 50,000 Tier Miles with at least 20,000 from flights. Under Etihad's current 25% threshold reduction (effective 18 March 2026 to 31 March 2027), this drops to 37,500 Tier Miles with 15,000 from flights. That still represents a significant flying commitment for most Indian travellers.
Lounge Access: No Spend Condition on Either Card
Both cards provide complimentary airport lounge access with no minimum spend condition attached - a meaningful advantage over many Indian travel cards that gate lounge access behind a quarterly spend requirement. The BOBCARD Eterna and Tiara, for comparison, require ₹40,000 in the preceding quarter for domestic lounge access. The Etihad cards have no such condition.
- Etihad Guest Standard: 8 domestic lounge visits per year (2 per quarter) + 4 international visits per year (1 per quarter)
- Etihad Guest Premium: 12 domestic lounge visits per year (3 per quarter) + 8 international visits per year (2 per quarter)
At ₹600–₹1,200 per domestic lounge visit, the Premium card's 4 additional annual domestic visits represent ₹2,400–₹4,800 in saved access costs. The 4 additional international visits on Premium, typically accessed via Priority Pass or partner programmes, add substantial value for frequent international travellers.
Who Should Get Which Card
Choose the Etihad Guest Standard if:
- You fly Etihad once or twice per year and want entry into the miles ecosystem at lower commitment
- Your annual international spend is under ₹2,50,000 - the 1% forex cost is manageable
- You spend ₹50,000–₹80,000 per month and want to hit the Standard's more achievable milestones
- You want international lounge access at ₹2,500 annual fee without the higher commitment of the Premium
Choose the Etihad Guest Premium if:
- You spend ₹2,50,000+ internationally per year - 0% forex recovers the ₹5,000 fee on its own
- You fly Etihad 2+ times annually and want the 6 miles/₹100 on Etihad bookings (2x the Standard rate)
- You want Gold tier with a single etihad.com purchase - the single biggest status advantage in the Indian market
- You spend ₹80,000–₹1,00,000+ per month and can unlock the Premium's higher milestone bonuses
- You travel internationally frequently and want the metal card, name engraving, and 8 international lounge visits
Applying for Either Card
Both cards require a fully digital application at etihadguest.bobcard.in. You must first create a free Etihad Guest account at etihad.com and have your membership number ready - miles cannot be credited without it. KYC is completed via Aadhaar OTP and Video KYC. No Bank of Baroda savings account is required.
Note for existing BOBCARD cardholders: applications sometimes receive an automated initial rejection followed by approval within a few days. If rejected despite meeting eligibility criteria, wait 3–5 days or call BOBCARD on 1800 103 1006.
