HDFC Bank Revises Rewards and Lounge Access on Regalia Gold, Diners Club Privilege and BizPower- Effective May 15

Key Highlights

  • Base reward rate cut from 4 RP/₹150 to 5 RP/₹200 on Regalia Gold and BizPower - effective 15 May 2026. Diners Club Privilege also drops to 4 RP/₹200.
  • Lounge access now spend-linked for all three cards from July–September 2026 quarter. Regalia Gold and DCP: ₹60,000 spend previous quarter for 3 visits/quarter. BizPower: 2 visits/quarter (no spend condition, but total halved).
  • New Boarding Edge Programme for Regalia Gold - upload boarding pass on SmartBuy, choose 2 travel perks per quarter.
  • BizPower milestone voucher doubles to ₹5,000 (from ₹2,500) at ₹2.5L quarterly spend - effective 1 July 2026.
  • Card reissuance fee rises to ₹199 (from ₹100) for Regalia Gold and DCP. DCC markup increases to 1.75%.
  • BizPower tax payment cap: reward points earned only on first 2 IT and first 2 GST transactions per billing cycle.

HDFC Bank, India's largest credit card issuer by cards-in-force, has announced revisions to three of its mid-premium cards - Regalia Gold, Diners Club Privilege, and BizPower - effective 15 May 2026, with lounge access changes rolling out from the July–September 2026 quarter. The changes reduce the base reward rate across all three cards and introduce a spending condition on lounge access that did not previously exist on Regalia Gold.

The common thread is a bank-wide move toward conditional, spend-linked benefits. Cardholders who actively use their cards throughout the year are largely protected. Those who hold the cards primarily for passive perks - lounge access without spending, or reward accumulation on large tax payments - will see a material reduction in value.

Base Reward Rate: What Changed and What It Means

The current base rate on all three cards is 4 reward points per ₹150 spent. From 15 May 2026, Regalia Gold and BizPower will earn 5 reward points per ₹200, and Diners Club Privilege will earn 4 reward points per ₹200. In effective percentage terms, this is a minor reduction.

Diners Club Privilege cardholders face the most significant base rate cut - a 25% reduction in effective reward value. For Regalia Gold and BizPower, the change is a 6% reduction. On a ₹25,000 monthly spend, the effective difference for Regalia Gold is ₹225 less in annual reward value - small in absolute terms but notable on a card marketed as a premium product.

Lounge Access: The Change That Affects the Most Cardholders

The lounge access revision is the most significant change for a large share of Regalia Gold holders. Previously, the card offered 12 complimentary domestic lounge visits per year with no spending condition attached. From the July–September 2026 quarter - based on April–June 2026 spends - that access will be conditional.

CardPrevious Lounge AccessNew Lounge AccessSpend Condition
Regalia Gold12 domestic visits/year (unconditional)3 domestic visits/quarter (12/year)₹60,000 spend in preceding quarter
Diners Club PrivilegeQuarterly visits (unconditional)3 visits/quarter (2 domestic + 1 international)₹60,000 spend in preceding quarter
BizPower16 domestic visits/year (unconditional)2 domestic visits/quarter (8/year)No spend condition - but total halved

Note: International lounge access on Regalia Gold (Priority Pass, 6 visits/year) remains unchanged with no spend condition.

For Regalia Gold holders who spend ₹60,000 or more per quarter - roughly ₹20,000 per month - the number of domestic lounge visits remains unchanged at 12 per year. The visit mechanism also remains unchanged: cardholders swipe their card at the lounge directly, with no voucher required.

The cardholders most affected are those who hold the card primarily for lounge access and do not maintain ₹60,000 quarterly spend on it. For them, lounge access has effectively been removed.

Regalia Gold Gains: The Boarding Edge Programme

HDFC has introduced a new travel benefit for Regalia Gold holders that partially compensates for the lounge condition. Cardholders who upload an airline boarding pass on the HDFC SmartBuy portal can choose any 2 of the following benefits every quarter:

Boarding Edge Programme - Available Benefits (choose 2 per quarter)

  • Lounge access (domestic, no voucher needed at terminal)
  • Travel assistance services
  • Airport transfer credits
  • Meet and greet services
  • Other travel-adjacent perks listed on SmartBuy portal

Note: Boarding pass must be uploaded via HDFC Bank SmartBuy portal. The boarding pass does not need to be booked through SmartBuy.

The Boarding Edge benefit means that Regalia Gold holders who fly regularly will likely retain meaningful value from the card - and potentially gain additional travel perks beyond what the old unconditional lounge access provided. The net effect is positive for frequent flyers; the net effect is negative for cardholders who rarely fly but valued the lounge as an occasional benefit.

BizPower: Tax Payment Restrictions and Milestone Upgrades

BizPower, HDFC's business-focused card, sees the most changes. The primary motivation is clear from the bank's communication: reward points on Income Tax and GST transactions had been misused by cardholders running large government payments through the card purely to accumulate rewards. From 15 May 2026, reward points will only be earned on the first 2 IT and first 2 GST transactions per billing cycle. Additional transactions beyond these limits earn no points.

At the same time, the accelerated reward cap on the 5X category has been raised from 5,000 to 7,500 reward points per month - a benefit for genuine business spenders. The monthly milestone threshold for 5X activation (₹25,000 spend) will now exclude IT and GST payments from the count. The quarterly MakeMyTrip/Reliance Digital gift voucher doubles from ₹2,500 to ₹5,000 from 1 July 2026, and a new Zero Cancellation flight voucher (up to ₹1,200 refund) is introduced for ₹75,000 quarterly spend.

What This Means for Cardholders

For Regalia Gold holders who spend ₹60,000+ per quarter: the card's total value is largely preserved. The reward rate reduction is minimal, lounge access is maintained at the same annual count, and Boarding Edge adds genuine travel value. This group is not materially disadvantaged.

For Regalia Gold holders who spend under ₹60,000 per quarter: the lounge benefit is effectively removed from July 2026. The card still offers its reward structure and Boarding Edge on active flight months, but the passive annual lounge access that many held the card for is gone.

For BizPower holders who run large tax payments: the fair usage cap directly reduces value. The two-transaction limit per billing cycle means any IT or GST payment beyond the second earns zero points.

What to Watch

The April to June 2026 quarter will be the deciding period for Regalia Gold lounge eligibility. Cardholders who want lounge access in the July–September quarter need to ensure ₹60,000 in eligible spend on the card between 1 April and 30 June 2026. HDFC has confirmed that the lounge access mechanism remains a direct card swipe - no voucher generation required - which maintains the ease of use even under the new condition.

The broader context matters: HDFC's Infinia card also saw changes earlier in 2026. This is part of a consistent bank-wide strategy of tightening passive benefits and rewarding active card usage. Whether the next revision affects Regalia Gold's milestone benefits or annual fee structure will depend on how card usage patterns shift in response to these changes.
