Credit Card Verdict Amex Centurion Black
What we like
- Dedicated 24/7 personal Relationship Manager - not a call centre, but a single named expert who handles travel, dining reservations, event access, and bespoke lifestyle requests proactively, round-the-clock.
- Access to 1,550+ airport lounges globally including Centurion Lounges (Amex's own premium lounges), Priority Pass, and partner lounges - the widest lounge network of any card on earth, for primary and supplementary cardmembers.
- Golf at 30+ premium India courses (DLF, Jaypee Greens, ITC Classic, Willingdon, Prestige Golfshire) + golf lessons at top 14 domestic courses + green fee waivers at 50+ international courses worldwide.
- International Airline Programme - access preferential fares, premium cabin discounts, and exclusive airline promotions on 20+ partner carriers, often unavailable to the public or other premium card tiers.
- 6 Membership Rewards Points per ₹200 on ALL eligible spends including fuel, insurance, and utility bills - categories excluded by most premium cards. Points never expire, unlike virtually every other card in India.
Watch out for
- First-year cost of ₹11,50,500 (incl. GST) is the highest of any consumer charge card in India - 10x the cost of the next most expensive card (IndusInd Pioneer Heritage). Value is only defensible for ultra-HNIs who actively use concierge and travel benefits.
- Forex markup of 3.5% on all international transactions - same as the Amex Platinum, and higher than HSBC Premier Metal (0.99%) or IndusInd Pioneer Heritage (1.8%). High for a card targeting global travellers.
- Charge card - full outstanding balance must be paid by the due date every month. No revolving credit or EMI facility. Missing due date triggers a 2.5% delinquency fee on outstanding amount.
- All existing American Express Personal Charge Cards are cancelled within 45 days of Centurion Card approval - plan supplementary card transitions in advance if using Amex Platinum or other Amex products.
Card24.ai's review is based on the official American Express India Centurion MITC (updated March 31, 2026) and verified public sources as of July 2026. The Centurion Card is an invite-only charge card, not a credit card. Fees, benefits, and eligibility criteria are subject to change at Amex's sole discretion. This is not financial advice. How to Apply for Amex Centurion Black Card
The application process is entirely online and takes about 5-7 minutes.
Build Your Amex Relationship - Start with the American Express Platinum Charge Card and use it as your primary spending instrument for all major categories - travel, dining, insurance, and business expenses - for a minimum of 2–5 years.
Achieve High Annual Spend - Consistently spend ₹2–5 crore or more annually across your Amex accounts. While Amex does not publish a threshold, verified reports indicate this range is the minimum observed among Centurion invitees in India.
Maintain Perfect Payment History - Pay your Amex statement balance in full and on time every single month without exception. Zero delinquencies across the full tenure of your Amex relationship is non-negotiable.
Submit an Expression of Interest - Visit americanexpress.com/in, navigate to the Centurion page, and submit your expression of interest form (available since late 2021). Provide your existing Amex card number and security code. This is not an application - it registers your interest for Amex's internal consideration process.
Await Invitation - If Amex determines you meet their internal criteria, a personal invitation will be extended - typically via your Amex relationship contact. On approval, note that all existing American Express Personal Charge Cards will be cancelled within 45 days. Plan supplementary card transitions in advance.
