Credit Card Verdict Axis Magnus

What we like

  • Unlimited domestic and international airport lounge access for primary and add-on cardholders — domestic requires ₹50,000 quarterly spend, international via Priority Pass is unconditional. Plus 4 guest lounge visits per year
  • 35 EDGE reward points per ₹200 on all retail spends above ₹1.5 lakh/month — effective earn rate of 3.5% at ₹0.20/RP via voucher redemption, or better via airline partner transfers
  • 2% forex markup on international transactions — significantly below the 3.5% industry standard. Zero cash advance fee (interest charges apply) on this card
  • ₹12,500 welcome benefit: choose from Luxe gift card, Postcard Hotels voucher, or Yatra travel voucher on first transaction within 30 days — fully offsets the ₹12,500 joining fee
  • Oberoi and Trident hotel benefit: book 2 nights, get the 3rd night complimentary + room upgrade at participating properties worldwide

Watch out for

  • APRIL 2026 DEVALUATION: Transfer ratio reduced from 5:4 to 5:2 (non-Burgundy Magnus). This halves the miles value per EDGE RP for airline and hotel redemptions. 60 EDGE RP that previously bought 48 miles now buys only 24 miles
  • APRIL 2026 DEVALUATION: Three of the best Travel EDGE partners removed — Accor ALL, Marriott Bonvoy, and Qatar Airways Privilege Club. These were the highest-value redemption options on the platform. Replacement partners (British Airways, Finnair, Vietnam Airlines) offer lower value
  • Domestic lounge access now requires ₹50,000 quarterly spend (updated) — previously near-unconditional. Guest lounge visits reduced from 8 to 4 per year. Both changes reduce the travel value for moderate spenders
  • Annual fee waiver requires ₹25 lakh in annual spend — ₹2,08,333/month. Extremely high threshold that most Magnus cardholders will not reach. The ₹12,500 fee is a fixed cost for the majority of holders

*12 EDGE RP per ₹200 on retail spends up to ₹1.5 lakh/month; 35 EDGE RP per ₹200 on incremental spends above ₹1.5 lakh. 60 EDGE RP per ₹200 via Axis Travel EDGE portal (up to ₹2 lakh). 1 EDGE RP = ₹0.20 at voucher redemption. Transfer to partner airlines/hotels at 5:2 ratio (effective April 2026; was 5:4). Domestic lounge on ₹50,000 quarterly spend; international via Priority Pass — unconditional. 4 guest lounge visits/year. 2% forex. Excluded from RP earn: wallet loads, rent, insurance, utilities, government, EMI, fuel. Annual fee ₹12,500 waived at ₹25L. T&Cs apply.

Credit Card Achievers Axis Magnus

Is Axis Magnus Credit Card Worth It in 2026?

Conditionally. Axis Magnus in 2026 is not the card that built its reputation — two significant devaluations in 2024 and 2026 have materially reduced its value. But for a specific profile — ₹1.5L+/month spenders who travel internationally and want unlimited lounge access with low forex — it still delivers competitive returns, even at the ₹12,500 annual fee.

The math for a ₹2L/month spender: first ₹1.5L earns 12 RP/₹200 = 9,000 RP; incremental ₹50K earns 35 RP/₹200 = 8,750 RP; total 17,750 RP worth ₹3,550 at ₹0.20/RP in vouchers. Annually: ₹42,600 in voucher value — more than 3× the ₹12,500 annual fee, even at the post-devaluation rate. Add 2% forex savings on ₹5L international spend = ₹7,500 saved vs standard 3.5% cards. Pre-devaluation, this math was 2× better. Post-devaluation, it still holds for high spenders.

The clear red flags: the April 2026 transfer ratio cut (5:4 → 5:2) halved airline miles value; the removal of Accor ALL and Marriott Bonvoy is a major blow to hotel redemptions. Magnus is now a weaker travel card than it once was. For dining out alongside Magnus, BOBCARD Eterna — 5X on restaurants with no spend-gated domestic lounge — is the natural companion for a well-structured high-spend portfolio.

Axis Magnus rewards ₹1.5L+/month spenders with 3.5% effective earn and unlimited lounge access. But the April 2026 devaluation — cutting transfer ratios and removing top hotel partners — demands an honest reassessment before applying.

Axis Magnus Credit Card Benefits

How to Get the Most Out of Axis Magnus Credit Card in 2026

Spend Beyond ₹1.5L/Month to Unlock 35 RP/₹200 - The earn rate doubles at the ₹1.5L/month threshold — from 12 RP/₹200 (1.2% effective) to 35 RP/₹200 (3.5% effective). Make this threshold a non-negotiable monthly target. Route all eligible spends — retail, dining, lifestyle — through Magnus to cross ₹1.5L. Every ₹2,000 spent above ₹1.5L earns 350 RP (₹70 value at ₹0.20/RP) vs only 120 RP (₹24) below the threshold.

Book All Travel via the Axis Travel EDGE Portal - Flights and hotels booked through the Axis Travel EDGE portal earn 60 EDGE RP per ₹200 — the highest single-channel earn rate. For a ₹50,000 hotel booking via Travel EDGE, you earn 15,000 RP worth ₹3,000 in vouchers, or 6,000 partner miles at the 5:2 transfer ratio. Always check Travel EDGE rates before booking — even a slight premium is typically worth the 60 RP vs 35 RP differential.

Transfer to KrisFlyer or BA Avios for Best Miles Value - Post-April 2026 devaluation, the best-value remaining partners are Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer (strong India-Asia-Europe redemption network) and British Airways Avios (Avios-based redemptions on partner airlines, including Vistara's Air India integration). Always have a specific award redemption in mind before transferring — miles in partner programmes may expire and should not sit idle.

Use 2% Forex for All International Spend - At 2% forex, Magnus is one of India's cheapest cards for international transactions — saving ₹7,500 on ₹5L in overseas spend vs standard 3.5% cards. Combined with the 12–35 RP/₹200 earn on international retail, Magnus is a strong international spending card as long as the 2% forex math is favourable relative to a zero-forex alternative.

Supplement With BOBCARD Eterna for Dining and Domestic Lounge - Magnus's domestic lounge now requires ₹50,000 quarterly spend — not guaranteed for all users. And dining earns at the tiered retail rate, not a dedicated dining accelerator. BOBCARD Eterna solves both: 5X rewards on dining and travel, and unlimited domestic lounge access on ₹40,000 quarterly spend. Run Magnus for high-value retail and international spend; run Eterna for daily dining and domestic airport trips.

Frequently Asked Questions

Axis Magnus is Axis Bank's flagship super-premium credit card with ₹12,500 joining and annual fee. It earns 12 EDGE RP per ₹200 on retail spends up to ₹1.5L/month and 35 EDGE RP/₹200 above that threshold (3.5% effective at ₹0.20/RP). Key travel benefits: unlimited domestic and international (Priority Pass) lounge access, 2% forex markup, and 4 guest lounge visits/year. The card has undergone two significant devaluations in 2024 and 2026.
Two devaluations: (1) April 2024 removed the milestone benefit (25,000 bonus RP/₹1L monthly spend), excluded insurance and utilities from RP earn, cut guest lounge visits from 8 to 4, and added a ₹50,000 quarterly spend condition for domestic lounge. (2) April 2026 cut the EDGE RP transfer ratio from 5:4 to 5:2 for non-Burgundy Magnus, and removed Accor ALL, Marriott Bonvoy, and Qatar Airways from Travel EDGE — the three highest-value redemption partners.
5 EDGE Reward Points = 2 partner miles or hotel points (5:2 ratio) for the standard Axis Magnus (non-Burgundy variant). This ratio was reduced from 5:4 effective April 2026 — a 50% cut in transfer value. The Magnus for Burgundy variant retains the 5:4 ratio. Current airline partners include Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, British Airways Avios, Emirates Skywards, and Air India Flying Returns. Accor ALL, Marriott Bonvoy, and Qatar Airways were removed in April 2026.
Tiered monthly earn: 12 EDGE RP per ₹200 on retail spends up to ₹1.5 lakh/month (1.2% effective). 35 EDGE RP per ₹200 on incremental spend above ₹1.5L (3.5% effective). 60 EDGE RP per ₹200 via Axis Travel EDGE portal (up to ₹2L portal spend). 1 EDGE RP = ₹0.20 at voucher redemption or 2 partner miles (at 5:2 transfer). Excluded: wallet loads, rent, insurance, utilities, fuel, government, EMI.
Domestic: unlimited visits for primary and add-on cardholders at select Indian airports — subject to spending ₹50,000 in the preceding 3 months. No access if threshold not met. International: unlimited visits via Priority Pass (unconditional) + 4 complimentary guest visits per year. Guest visits were reduced from 8 to 4 in the April 2024 devaluation.
